Largest casino and entertainment enterprise – Gateway Casinos and Entertainment
Gateway Casinos and Entertainment is one of the largest casino and entertainment enterprises in Western Canada. It owns and operates twelve casinos in both Alberta and British Columbia. The headquarters of the organisation are in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Gateway Casinos has grown from just two facilities to twelve different casinos. Properties include the Grand Villa Casino and Convention Centre Burnaby and Starlight Casino New Westminster among others. The Baccarat and Palace Casinos in Edmonton, and the Newton Bingo in Surrey are also two properties in their portfolio.
Gateway Casinos Started With Two Casinos
Gateway Casinos was started in 1992, and they have provided management services for casinos in the Greater Vancouver regional District of British Columbia. Later that year Gateway Casinos acquired two casinos in the Vancouver area in the Mandarin Centre of Vancouver’s Chinatown. Their next property was on the top floor of Royal Towers Hotel in New Westminster.
In 1994 Gateway Casinos purchased a third casino, which eventually became the Burnaby Casino. That year also saw the relocation of Gateway Casinos from the small premises in the Mandarin Centre to a newly renovated and much bigger site in the same centre. Two years later, Gateway Casinos relocated to expanded premises within the hotel in New Westminster. The Maple Ridge casino ceased operation in 1996, and the operation was opened in the building across from the now Gran d Villa Casino in Burnaby.
New Starlight Edmonton, Alberta
In 1990 Gateway Casino acquired the Palace Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, which was renovated, and more than doubled its size. In 2002 Gateway Casinos acquired various more properties in Edmonton as well as the Lake City Casinos. The huge Cascades casino, just minutes away from the US border, was opened in 2005 in Langley, British Columbia, which brought about an advance in size and significance. The Starlight Edmonton, with a powerful contemporary design and an Asian flavour, is now the new name of the Palace Casino in Edmonton Alberta. This casino will redefine gaming and entertainment in Edmonton, Alberta, and is expected to provide a great boost to Alberta economy.
Grand Villa Also One of the Flagship Properties
The Grand Villa Casino with its look and feel of a prosperous Italian villa, was opened in 2008, and together with the Starlight Edmonton, is now considered Gateway Casino’s flagship properties. In 2015, Gateway Casinos announced its plans to build a brand new casino in the Edmonton Arena district.
The new Cascades Casino Kamloops opened in 2015, a premier gaming and entertainment destination in the heart of Kamloops, British Columbia. The property features a stunning gaming floor and some interesting restaurants.
Also in 2015, Gateway Casinos bought Playtime Gambling, including six Playtime locations and all the assets, operations and about three hundred employees. This established the company as one of the leading gaming and entertainment companies in Canada.
